What's sexy now? Escaping the suburbs and chance to shop for dinner in the city at a real butcher shop. Rain slicked streets. Thick-soled shoes. People walking & biking. A most excellent breakfast with a most excellent friend. Home fries, pancakes & syrup. Portland's PastaWorks Deli and Powell's books next door.

I picked up a couple of pounds of Hangar Steak, an inexpensive but tender cut. It's a popular French Bistro dish usually served with pommes frites. Hangar steaks are quick & easy to prepare too -- excellent pan-fried with balsamic vinegar & shallots. Here's a great recipe at Epicurious. I also found some Italian wine, a nice handmade pasta, some arborio rice for risotto, and fresh greens. The steaks came out beautifully. The boys in the house said "yum, is there more?" That's always a sign of success.

Speaking of kinky, my breakfast date has a new piece up at Oysters & Chocolate. Shanna gets the kinks out every time. Here 'tis: Getting Out the Kinks

"I feel like we’ve been busted, even though technically, we aren’t doing anything wrong. It feels like the automatic guilt associated with when a person spots a cop in the rearview mirror. It’s Erica’s lunch hour, and she’s asked me to stop over and ease a kink in her back."

That was such a nice post, Kirsten. I'm familiar with Shanna's work (it's so good) and it's cool you're friends. Friends are so important.

BTW: I'm starving after reading all that. Can you send me either the breakfast or the dinner leftovers? Oh, you mean there were no leftovers! Sheesh. :-)

Have a great weekend.

Hi Neve,

Shanna is such an amazing writer. And she's an even more amazing friend. We did scarf all the leftovers, but I do have some S'Mores Cheesecake with Marshmallow Merengue topping. Mmmmm. Would you like some?
